Liberalisation of the medical sector by 2013: Are We Ready?

Dear future doctors!

Soon, we may be facing stiffer competition on our own shores. In the Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA) agreement signed by Tun Dr Mahathir in 1997, the government has committed itself in opening up the medical sector to ASEAN doctors by 2013.  In short, this allows the free flow of doctors within the ASEAN region. While it is a good step in today's globalized world, it too has its own share of problems.
