The Kursk Malaysian Medical Student Association would like to convey our utmost gratitude and appreciation to:
Dato' Dr Wong Sai Hou & Datin Goh Beng Lan
for their kind assistance in the appeal to postpone the elective posting ruling to next year.
Dato' Dr. Wong and Datin Goh contacted us in the MSA for the very first time on the 11th March 2009 to understand the situation and to know what has been done. As we explained that an official letter of appeal has been sent on 10th March 2009, they requested for a copy of it.
After a few days of late-night sleeps, they came up with a letter entitled 'AN URGENT APPEAL FOR THE POSTPONEMENT AND REVIEW OF MMC’S LATEST RULING ON MALAYSIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS STUDYING IN RUSSIA AND THEIR SUMMER ATTACHMENT IN MALAYSIA' for the consideration of our DG of Health, Tan Sri Ismail Merican.

It was then on the 16th March 2009 that Datin Goh saw Tan Sri himself in his office to discuss a few matters, top on the list being the recent elective posting ruling affecting us.
From the left: Tan Sri Ismail Merican, Datin Goh Beng Lan on 16th March.
In the meeting, she presented 2 letters for Tan Sri's review. They are:
- AN URGENT APPEAL FOR THE POSTPONEMENT AND REVIEW OF MMC’S LATEST RULING ON MALAYSIAN MEDICAL STUDENTS STUDYING IN RUSSIA AND THEIR SUMMER ATTACHMENT IN MALAYSIA by Dato' Dr Wong, dated 15th March 2009.
- APPEAL TO POSTPONE THE ELECTIVE POSTING RULING TO NEXT YEAR by MSA, dated 10th March 2009.
It was after that that Tan Sri agreed verbally to the postponement. When asked further if this piece of good news can be spread among the students, he said 'yes'.
The news was then immediately relayed to the students in one of our posts in our Facebook Discussion Board entitled [UPDATES] SUMMER PRACTICE POSTPONED TO NEXT YEAR.
This is a brief account of how 2 concerned parents have assisted us in the appeal to the MMC. Along the way, they have also offered many useful advice on how it is best to go about this issue.
I believe there are many unsung heroes out there too, parents who were equally concerned and contributed in the appeal. Please accept our sincerest gratitude for that. The fact that we are aware of what has been done by Dato' Dr Wong and Datin Goh was because they contacted us in the MSA and that's how we began to work together.
This definitely is a collective achievement. There's no way any single individual can achieve so much, not even MSA alone without the involvement of other universities, parents and students alike. Thanks also to the Malaysian Medical Council for their kind consideration of our appeals.
Thank you all once again!
P/S: Dato’ Dr Wong Sai Hou and Datin Goh Beng Lan are parents of Miss Wong Pik Yuet who is currently studying in 4th year, 2nd Semester.
thanks a lot~!!!!
