Ruzaik, our 1st international speaker from Sri Lanka, who gave us a short yet comprehensive lesson on GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS, a common issue affecting most mothers during their child-bearing period. Our next speaker was Mr. S.Devandiran who refreshed us on DIABETES MELLITUS IN ADULTS. An astonishing and worrying fact that 48% of adults above the age of 30 years old nowadays are not aware that they have diabetes due to early period of the disease which is asymptomatic. Hence, the importance of an early screening and repeated glucose tolerance measures must be taken if one is to be suspected. He also reminded us on the 3P symptoms; polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia as well as tiredness and sudden weight loss.
