Physician of General Medicine

The change in the terms used in the translation of our degree has been the talk of the town lately.

Upon clarifying with the university administration today, the translation of degree now reads as "Physician of General Medicine" (previously Doctor of General Medicine). The original Russian version remains unchanged.

The change took place not only in our university, but in all universities in Russia.

It is the decision implemented by the Russian Ministry of Education, which at the same time is in charge of printing our degrees.

It is reiterated however, that no alteration of syllabus is involved and therefore the recognition of our degree remains unaffected.

The name change, as were explained to us, is because the Ministry felt that there is a need to draw a distinction between the word "Doctor" in our primary medical degree and that of "Doktor Medicinskii Nauk (D.M.H)" which denotes a higher level of qualifications (equivalent to PhD) under the Russian education system.

By the way, the name change has been in place since the batch of Winter 2010, who graduated in February 2010.

The Malaysian Medical Council and the Public Service Commision (SPA) was informed about the change.

Essentially, the degree is still the same as before as it's original name in Russian remains unaltered. In addition to that, it also doesn't affect the recognition and that we are able to work immediately upon graduation.
