Freshies Orientation SEP/OCT 2010

By Sakthiswaran Rajasekar.

Today is Sunday. I am adding a text entry to share a very successful event that was held last week here at the Pad Fak Hall.

This weekend MSA saw its first formal Freshies Orientation. Freshies orientations were done countless times in the past, albeit informally. It was no mean feat coming together on such short notice, brainstorming for various ideas, discussing it, distributing various responsibilities to different people, although they had to finish in the foyer, you guys did an admirable job!

The objective of the event was for a formal introduction of KSMU, to ensure that the students interact with each other and get to know as many people as possible or at least their names. The program was divided into 3 parts; Presentations by the various divisions of MSA Kursk, Games, and performances by the Freshies.

The introduction started off with a brief speech by the President, Jeyendran Kanagarajah followed by the various vice presidents with short presentations containing information necessary for a successful transition into “Kursk life”.

For the activities they were shuffled into different groups (6 groups with 10-12 students in each) using different strategies. Mexmollen Marcus, the VP for Social and Cultural Department got all the freshies up and moving, a timely act for warming up themselves after sitting through 3 presentations.

The event finished with the first years presenting their performances.

Kudos to the freshies for their wonderful performances that day. They were truly a bunch of creative and sporting crowd. The team which obtained the BEST PERFORMANCE award, Group A wowed the crowd with a sketch depicting their whole journey from Moscow to Kursk. A rather entertaining sketch I would say.

Many thanks are due also to Jagdeesh, Zaid, Sharmaine and Ruban for their contribution in the " Places of Worship in Kursk" session.

Frehies will receive a hard copy of the complete Handbook for Freshies soon to be published on this website.

I was rather satisfied with this year's program. There was only one thing I can point to that wasn't essentially perfect, the timing. That observation must be taken in context, though.  The Freshies Orientation this time marks a new beginning and serves as the foundation of the Kursk experience.
