The first official session of the Future Doctors was successfully held in the 4th Hostel today. The turnout was rather encouraging as 12 students, ranging from 2nd years to 6th years turned up and participated actively throughout the session. Presenters, Sakhtis Rajasekar, 4th year and Lee Yew Ching, 4th year took the floor and talked enthusiastically on topics 'Fetal Hypoxia' and 'Varicose Veins' respectively. At the end of each presentation, questions after questions were bombarded to the presenters. Being well prepared, fortunately, they were able to answer the questions rather amicably.
In the picture: Participants listened attentively as Yew Ching talked on Varicose Veins.

As this was the first official session, we are still seeking to improve further. At the end of the session, we asked each participant their opinions on how the program was organized. Apart from some positive comments, we noted that junior students who attended could not follow some parts of the presentations when presenters used abbreviations like SPO2, GA,etc. More emphasis would be put in familiarising students with the different abbreviations used in the future. This would be helpful even to the senior students as well.
Besides, in our bid to make the session more relevant to junior students, we would be having a 2+1 program from the next session onwards. This means of the 3 topics weekly, there will be 2 Clinical Topics and 1 Pre-Clinical Topic. Examples of Pre-Clinical topics are 'Cholesterol Metabolism' (Biochemistry), 'Protein Metabolism' (Biochemistry), 'Normal Physiology of the Thyroid Gland' (Physiology), 'Thermal Regulation' (Physiology) and topics as such. It helps senior students in revision as well.
We hope this program would be interesting and would benefit students in the long run.
Come join us in the next session of Future Doctors, Wednesdays, 5-7pm in MSA Room, 4th Hostel.
